Here I'll write down my rants about different things.

Why Neocities?

I've given it several tries and social media doesn't do it for me. I don't care for the bloatedness, sterility and corporatism of the Web these days. Every website and profile looks exactly the same and there's no real freedom given to the user. Neocities lets me run my site exactly how I want it (90s style baby) and the community is seriously awesome. A win-win. Check out this article!

Mac OS

Still solid but has stumbled a bit when it comes to reliability and design. Tiger and Snow Leopard were rock solid, but Catalina and Mojave need to be restarted every week or so (one year development cycle?). Thankfully most of the annoying additions can be disabled or removed. In terms of design I don't like the Fisher-Price look they've been going for since Yosemite and with Big Sur it hasn't improved much. The flat design was a step back from the tradition of rich design and iconography Apple has had since the classic days.

Netflix

Ten years ago they had some great stuff to stream. These days it's just "smart" metahumor. Their original series are not appealing to me and the price just keeps going up and up. People complained about paying $100 a month for cable and yet these days, if you want to watch everything you have to pay at least $100 to different streaming services. Gonna stick to my DVD and VHS box sets...

Office chairs

I've parked my butt working in a number of these over the years and I still hold that the Steelcase sensor is the best office chair ever made. I've sat in the Steelcase Criterion and can confirm it is also one comfy chair, though I'm not too fond of the gap between the backrest and seat. If you spend more than an hour a day sitting at the computer just do yourself a favor and shop around for a nice office chair. It doesn't matter if it's used, the important thing is that you don't feel any pain while working. Your back will thank you. Ergonomics history for the nerds

Beavis & Butthead Season 9

The duo is back and the episodes are pretty damn funny. The endings are a little off in a few episodes but overall the humor is there and the pacing is better than the last time it got rebooted.

Streets of Rage 3

How Sega screwed this game up so badly is beyond me. The normal difficulty in SoR 3 is more difficult than the hard difficulty in SoR 2, and this is coming from someone who likes a good challenge. Just play the English translation of Bare Knuckle III and you'll have a blast. This game's music is killer btw – not as consistently strong as the first two games but there are some definite bangers in there, reminds me a lot of late 90s IDM.

Streets of Rage 4

P O W E R S L I D E

Seriously, I was pleasantly surprised. I was expecting a Streets of Rage 1/2 rehash. The stages are unique enough to warrant a new game and the art direction is on point. I was a little disappointed they ignored the gameplay improvements in Streets of Rage 3 because none of them made it into this game.

Facebook (social media in general)

The parasite of our society. What was supposedly created to bring people together is nothing more than a tool for social unrest and tribalization. Anyway, everything these days wants to be connected to your FB/Instagram account. Businesses, clubs, colleges you name it, somehow no one can figure out another way to get in touch with people. You can't even view a page on Facebook without getting nagged into making an account. I'm not giving you my personal information for you to tabulate and psychoanalyze so get lost!

Corporate Memphis

Just look it up.. gross

Computer Modern (the font)

This font is readability and pretentiousness at its worst ("My document is better than yours because I formatted it in LaTeX! I know how to use LaTeX, look at me!") As a screen font it is obnoxiously spindly and hard to read. As a print font it does look slightly better, especially with old-fashioned printers/photocopiers that thicken what they copy.
