Here I have summaries of my computers. Pictures will be coming soon, if I get around to it ;)
Mac OS 12.6.1 Monterey
SoC:3.2 GHz Apple M1 Pro APL1103 (10 Core)
RAM:16 GB unified RAM
Storage:512 GB SSD
Displays:16-inch Retina XDR screen
23-inch Apple Cinema Display
It's no secret that Apple has slid in the last couple of years with their pro products. But I still think the MBP with Touch Bar is where they really dropped the ball. No MagSafe, a crippled keyboard, thermal issues, diminished repairability and thinness for the sake of thinness... the list goes on and on. History lesson aside, Apple has gotten the MacBook Pro right again. You've heard it from all the tech pundits on the Web and I'll say it again: this thing is a complete improvement in every sense of the word. The performance and thermals are outstanding and I have no doubt Apple made a smart move switching to their own silicon. On a related note: I still think the 17 inch Al PowerBook G4 is peak laptop design and I love seeing some of its elements in this new design.
Mac OS 12.6.1 Monterey
CPU:1.6 GHz Intel Core i5 5250U (Dual Core) (Turbo Boost up to 2.7 GHz)
Graphics:Intel HD Graphics 6000 1.5 GB VRAM
RAM:4 GB DDR3 RAM
Storage:128 GB SSD
Display:11-inch screen
This was my main workhorse for over six years. It's definitely long in the tooth but is still a very portable and dependable machine. Easy to service too, which can't be said for the newer macbooks. I replaced the battery and trackpad in half an hour. The screen is antiquated by today's standards but the main issue is the lack of ram. Mac OS requires 4 GB just to install and all the bloated modern Web sites just love eating up memory. I had Catalina on here but after weeks of Bluetooth and Safari issues, I said to hell with it and installed Monterey. It works fine although the battery is very worn out and I can't be bothered to replace it again.
MacBook Air 11-inch Tips!Mac OS X 10.15.7 Catalina
Mac OS X 10.9 Mavericks
Windows 10
CPU:2x 3 GHz Intel Xeon E5472 (8 Core)
Graphics:Nvidia GTX 645 1 GB VRAM
RAM:40 GB DDR2 RAM
Storage:240 GB SSD, 1 TB HDD (7800 rpm)
CD-RW/DVD-RW Combo (SuperDrive)
Display:23-inch Apple Cinema Display
I used to use this machine a lot more but these days it's mainly reserved for running Windows software. At one point I had Snow Leopard and a patched version of High Sierra on here. It's a beautiful computer but I can't justify upgrading it anymore. I still use the Apple Cinema Display with my MBP and it's a sweet monitor to use every day. The brightness controls are simple and responsive and the viewing angles are phenomenal. I like the extra vertical resolution especially on Mac OS and the letterboxing on widescreen movies has never bothered me.
Mac OS X 10.8 Mountain Lion
CPU:2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo T8300 (Dual Core)
Graphics:Intel GMA X3100 144 MB VRAM
RAM:4 GB DDR2 RAM
Storage:160 GB HDD (5400 rpm)
CD-RW/DVD-RW Combo (SuperDrive)
Display:13-inch screen
I used this as my main portable for a few years. I installed a patched version of Mountain Lion and it works fine with minor graphical issues. The integrated graphics on these were always awful. Playing most 3D games on decent settings is out of the question. Apple says the ram limit on these is 4GB but I've heard of people installing 6GB. These computers are prone to certain cosmetic issues, especially the palmrest plastic cracking but I've managed to keep mine in good shape.
Mac OS X 10.4.11 Tiger
CPU:800 MHz PowerPC G4 7445
Graphics:Nvidia GeForce2 MX 32 MB VRAM
RAM:256 MB PC133 RAM
Storage:60 GB HDD (5400 rpm)
CD-RW/DVD-R Combo (SuperDrive)
Display:15-inch screen
Can't believe it's been 20 years. The design is still as stunning as the day it came out. This was my first Mac and I find there's a certain kind of approachability to these white plastic Macs. Early Mac OS X was a little rough, but I still hold that nothing Apple has put out since comes close to matching Tiger in speed, reliability or interface design (except maybe Snow Leopard). The hard disk failed years ago so I replaced it with a new old stock IDE disk. This machine doesn't get much use but I do break it out every once in a while to play some old Mac games. I spent a lot of hours playing Max Payne on here :)
